You are already using the serial port, and you don't need anything special to do this, you just need to understand how to program the modem using the AT commands, and the escape sequence for switching from command to data mode (+++, followed by a short delay before continuing.) Refer to the link below for some info. Hypertermial can, and Procomm, and ancient (yet excellent!) DOS app that might not work so well for you. Terminal programs will do what you are asking. You can develop a proper "reset string" to send to the modem with some research, practice and patience. (The manufacturer of your modem has implemented their own version of the Hayes command set. ATA and ATA0 mean the same thing, answer on the first ring.) Modems vary in what they will send the application that is using them, and that is usually programmable, too. (ATA5 means answer on the 6th ring, for example. This would prevent instances where agents auto-answer while mid-conversation with their colleagues and the customer ends up eavesdropping on the conversation. Here is a link to some info, but the autoanswer is ATA n where n is optional and is the ring number to answer on. When a user enables auto-answer on 3CXphone, it would be ideal for them to hear an audible tone before they are connected to a customer. The Hayes command set is where you need to start looking. Use the ATA command instead, because the modem will answer in data mode, negotiate the connection, and begin to spew the data forth, usually after sending some text about the connection, depending on how "verbose" you have it set to respond.)

( EDIT : In fact, you have already tried to use ATH1 to do that, but you would need to follow that with +++ and a delay for it to have any hope of working. The modem that is supposed to answer must be set to autoanswer.
